Little Saints Preschool

The preschool at St. Charles Borromeo School provides a developmentally appropriate, play-based learning environment in which fosters students’ spiritual, social and academic growth.  We are aligned with the Early Learning standards of both the state of Illinois and the Diocese of Rockford.

Schedule Options

  • Three-Year-Old: Mon., Wed., Fri. Half Day from 8:15-11:30 or Full Day from 8:15-3:00​

  • Three-Year-Old: Monday-Friday Half Day from 8:15-11:30 or Full Day from 8:15-3:00

  • Four-Year-Old: Monday-Friday Half Day from 8:15-11:30 or Full Day from 8:15-3:00

Math

  • Preschool math provides the foundation for advanced mathematics by developing confidence with numbers, geometric figures and positions, measurement, patterning, and sorting.  Students use manipulatives and games to problem solve and analyze data through charts and graphing.

Develop Social Skills

Students develop into independent thinkers by immersing themselves into a new environment with endless opportunities for hands-on, independent and communal learning.  Students learn to follow directions, communicate emotions, resolve conflict, and form connections.  Interactions with their peers teaches them to cooperate, take turns, share, forgive and support one another. A dramatic play center promotes storytelling and imagination.

 

Students participate in special classes such as P.E., music, Spanish and technology, and meet monthly with Big Buddies from the Middle School.

Science & Social Studies

  • Weekly themes in science and social studies encourage students to learn about the world around them.  Hands-on experiences that relate to the life, physical and earth sciences encourage students to make observations and test hypotheses. They learn to understand the roles of members of the community, and to understand their responsibility to family, class, school and the world. Ideas are reinforced through fiction and non-fiction storytelling.

Reading/Language Arts

  • St. Charles Borromeo School's preschool literacy program encompasses both pre-reading and pre-writing components.  Frequent fiction and non-fiction interactive read-alouds and discussions encourage print awareness and comprehension skills.  Phonics skills, including letter recognition, letter sounds, rhyming and syllables are taught through interactive games and music.  Sensory, fine motor, and art activities are used to promote early writing skills. The Squiggle Squad handwriting program develops stroke and letter formation. 

Religion

  • Our students participate in daily prayer and attend Mass monthly. Weekly Bible stories explore the foundations of the faith through listening, retelling and art. The His Little Way series guides students through the liturgical year as they experience the traditions and practices of the Catholic faith.  Students learn that they are beloved Children of God, and to respect and care for themselves, others and all of God’s creatures.
